Nerdy Companion
A study companion, in early design. Most of it is not decided yet, and this page says so rather than filling the gap.
What is decided
Nerdy Companion is meant to help someone learn a subject — to sit alongside the studying rather than do it for them.
That is the whole of what has been settled. It is not much, and publishing it at this size is a deliberate choice: a page describing features that do not exist is the easiest page in the world to write, and the hardest to retract.
What is not decided
- Who exactly it is for — a school student, a university student, or someone teaching themselves. These want different things.
- What single task it does better than a notebook and a search engine.
- Whether it remembers anything between sessions, and if so what.
- What the first version deliberately will not do.
The memory question is the one being taken most seriously, because it is the hardest to change later. Anything that remembers a person has to be able to forget them, and retrofitting deletion into a system built to accumulate is where good intentions usually fail. That decision comes before any code, not after it.
What is true of it regardless
Whatever it turns out to be, it is bound by the same published commitments as everything else here. In particular: nothing private becomes training data without a specific, opt-in choice, and anything it holds can be exported and deleted.
