What it is
TruXSocial is a place to post, read and argue. You can use it today.
It starts from a belief that most platforms treat as impossible: that people should be able to speak openly and disagree seriously without being quietly suppressed, and that this does not require accepting real harm as the price.
Most services pick a side of that. Either speech is throttled to make moderation easy, or harm is tolerated to avoid the work. TruXSocial tries to hold both by being specific about the difference, in public, in advance.
Speech is the default
Posts are not removed for being unpopular, uncomfortable, or on the wrong side of an argument. Disagreement is the point of the place.
Five things are moderated, and only these five:
- Direct threats against a person.
- Terrorism.
- Scams.
- Fraud.
- Coordinated abuse — organised campaigns against someone, rather than one person being rude.
That list is short on purpose, and it is published so it can be held to. A rule that can be stretched to cover anything is not a rule; it is permission.
Moderation happens where you can see it
The usual complaint about moderation is not really that it exists. It is that it happens invisibly, without explanation, and cannot be argued with.
So: a post stays up while it is being reviewed, rather than vanishing first and being judged later. When a decision is made, it comes with a reason. And there is a way to appeal it to a person.
None of that makes the decisions correct. It makes them visible and contestable, which is the part that is usually missing.
How it is paid for
By the people who use it, directly. Supporters pay a small monthly amount, and that is the whole model.
There is no advertising, and revenue from anyone's data is ruled out by the first published commitment. This is not generosity — it is the only arrangement in which the platform answers to the people posting on it. Running costs are deliberately small, so a modest number of supporters covers them.
Supporting it is optional. The platform works without paying.
Safety and privacy, at the level that is safe to describe
Tier 2 — generalAny place where people can reach each other will be used to cause harm, and a platform that has not planned for that has planned to be surprised by it.
What is published: that reporting exists, that decisions are explained, that appeals exist, and that the five categories above are the whole list. Where a law requires a particular process, the intention is to meet that requirement rather than substitute a different one. Which laws apply depends on the questions listed below, which are not settled.
What is deliberately not published: the signals used to detect organised abuse, the thresholds that trigger a review, and the weights behind anything that orders what you see. Publishing those protects nobody — it hands the people working around them a tested map. Nicholic will never sell, rent, or broker personal data.
Nicholic will never use private user content to train a model without specific, opt-in permission.
Nicholic will never make leaving harder than joining.
Nicholic will never change published rules without notice before they take effect.
Nicholic will never hold a person's own data hostage.
Nicholic will never build mechanics designed to be hard to stop using.
Nicholic will never make core functionality conditional on advertising.
Nicholic will never use deceptive pricing, hidden charges, or automatic renewal a person did not knowingly choose.
